Stagnelius In Concert presents poems by Erik Johan Stagnelius with new music composed by Harald Erici. The premiere was held in the medieval church of Gärdslösa the 24th of September and performed the following night at Kalmar Castle. The concerts draw a big audience and were very appreciated. Especially the combination of music and theatre where actor Lars Sonnesjö made an intimate and personal portrait of the young poet.
Erik Johan Stagnelius is considered as one of Swedens greatest poets of all times. He grew up in Öland two hundred years ago as son of the priest in Gärdslösa village. Inspired by books of Greek myths, local tales and the mystery of nature, Stagnelius began to write amazing poetry. Sadly there was no great acknowledgement of his work until his death. Erik Johan Stagnelius died 29 years old. He was sick, poor, and desired for his ideal woman. Stagnelius poetry is universal and timeless and still engages and thrills many readers of today.
Participants: Mezzo soprano Solgerd Isalv, actor Lars Sonnesjö, Gärdslösa Chamber Choir directed by Ingegärd Cafourek, Torbjörn Westman - nyckelharpa & violin, Peter Schöning - cello and Harald Erici - piano.
